Fairgrounds Volleyball Center
15555 Jimmy Durante Blvd
Contact & Location Information
All “Wave” teams practice at the Fairgrounds Volleyball Center. The “Big White Tent” is located just west of I-5 near the San Diego Fairgrounds. Completed in 2003, the center was designed strictly for volleyball. With easy access, ample room around each court, high ceilings, and hundres of volleyballs, the center is an ideal location for volleyball training. The Encinitas Wave Volleyball Club is located at the Fairgrounds Volleyball Center. The volleyball facility is easy to spot from I-5, it is the big white tent just west of the freeway and South of the Via De La Valle offramp in Del Mar.

We are a family-oriented club, and the goal of Wave Volleyball is to provide the finest possible volleyball experience to every athlete that is involved in our program – as a player, person, and student/athlete. To achieve that goal, we strive to maximize the individual skill level of every player, and then combine those players into the best possible team they can be. We stress development of fundamental skills as a player, learning to work together as a team, and personal habits that lead to success in any walk of life. The only way we can help each player reach their potential as a student/athlete is to assemble, what we believe, is one of the finest coaching staffs in the country. As a minimum requirement to be part of the Wave staff, all of our coaches have excelled on the court at the college level and have earned university degrees. In addition, numerous coaches have indoor and beach pro experience, NCAA Championship rings, Olympic medals, and have played for the USA National Team. We pride ourselves in being excellent teachers and good role models for aspiring student/athletes. We also take pride in providing a clean, safe, and healthy environment in our practice facility at the Fairgrounds Volleyball Center.
Outstanding teams are the result of fundamentally sound players in every facet of the game and great team chemistry. The Wave’s results from last season speak for themselves.
The Southern California Volleyball Association is the most competitive and deep region in the country, with over 1,200 teams in five divisions. In a testimonial to the quality of the players, families and the coaching staff at the Wave VBC, the club won the overall title in two out of five SCVA divisions in the 2011 season, Wave 14 Katie and Wave 16 Jeanne each won their respective divisions. In addition, Wave 11 Tammy was the highest rated 11-year-old team, and Wave 17 Brennan was the highest rated 17-year-old team. In essence, the Wave finished atop four of eight individual age groups in the SCVA, a remarkable achievement considering the depth of volleyball talent in Southern California
In addition to our success on the regional level, 8 Wave teams qualified for the USA Volleyball Girl’s Junior National Championships held in Atlanta, Georgia. The club earned five Top 10 finishes, with Wave 12 Casey bringing home a Bronze Medal. At the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix, Wave 13 Abra won their division as well.
The Wave can only achieve such remarkable success by attracting the best student/athletes from throughout San Diego County. We are searching for players who want to excel on the volleyball court and classroom as well, with the goal of eventually competing at the collegiate level. We highly encourage any player who desires to compete at the highest level of club volleyball to come by and check out our club!
Thanks for your interest in the Wave Volleyball Club!
Ed Machado founded the Encinitas Volleyball Club and helped build the Fairgrounds Volleyball Center. Ed is committed to the long-term success of both the club and the center. "We have a great thing going at the center," said Machado. "Our coaching staff is as good as it gets, and we have a great group of players and parents. We're successfully competing at the national level. I'm not going anywhere. It's way too much fun walking into the center during practice. The atmosphere is unreal, and the energy and vibe is contagious. As a matter of fact, my long term goal is to build a permanent, four-court facility and have the best volleyball club in America."
The bottom line for every family is to whom they will be entrusting the welfare of their daughter or son. Our staff is as good as any in the country. We're all friends, and we all share information. Our goal collectively is to pass our knowledge and experience onto our players. That knowledge and experience includes: An Olympic Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal, 19 years USA National Team experience, 11 NCAA Division 1 Championships, 53 years Division 1 playing experience, 16 years Division 1 Coaching experience, 7 Collegiate All-American awards, 2 Collegiate Hall-of-Famers, 2 "Open" and 3 "Club" Junior Olympic National Championships, 15 CIF High School Championships, 3 NBAChampionships, 8 Teaching Credentials, 7 Master's Degrees and 1 Ph.D.
Following the above formula, the Encinitas "Wave" is now recognized as one of the top clubs at the National level. We believe the true measure of success is the number of teams that can qualify each year for the Junior Olympic National Championships. Over the last three years the "Wave" has been one of the Top 5 clubs in all of Southern California in that regard, sending 21 teams to the Junior Olympics during that span.
