After leading La Costa Canyon to their first CIF Division 1 title in 2004 and earning CIF Player-of-the-Year honors, Jade Machado headed to UCLA. A 4-year letter winner, Jade received the 2007 UCLA Best Passer award and played in the 2006 Final Four at Nebraska. Jade excelled in the classroom as well as on the court. Her accomplishments included three years on the First Team All-Pac 10 Academic Team, three years on the UCLA All-Academic Team, the First Team 2007 ESPN Academic All-District team and the UCLA Athletic Director's Academic Excellence Award. Graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude in 2009 with a 3.96 GPA, Machado was named the UCLA Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Jade was the setter for Team Moonlight, the 2008 Women's champion of the Manhattan 6-Man Beach Tournament. With 200 teams, 2500 players and 50,000 spectators, the "6-man" is the world's largest beach tournament. In 2010, Jade also won the annual Moonlight Beach Coed volleyball tournament.
Machado has been teaching summer camps at the tent for 8 years, and coached the 12-1's and 13-1's the past two seasons. During the 2010 season the 12-1's finished first overall in the SCVA 12 year old division, won the SoCal Qualifier and earned a Bronze Medal at the Junior National Championships in Reno, Nevada. The 13-1's ended the 2011 season as the second ranked 13-year-old team in the SCVA 14's division and qualified for the Junior National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, where they finished 13th. Jade earned her Masters and Teaching credential at USC and is currently teaching 2nd grade. Jade played on the first Wave graduating senior class.
