Former WAVE athletes named All-American first-team and honorable mention


Former WAVE volleyball player, Natalie Hagglund, earned 2011 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) All-America awards honors!  Over this past weekend in the third and fourth rounds of the NCAA tournament, Hagglund picked up 25 digs in the University of Southern California’s win over Hawaii and led the team with 32 digs and 2 aces against Pepperdine. She now has 565 digs on the season which ranks her nationally and third amongst Pac-12 Conference players. She averages 5.19 digs-per-set and has tied the school record for most digs in a three-set match with 30 against No. 4 Washington. Hagglund was also named 2011 Pac-12 Conference Libero of the Year for her efforts.
 

Hagglund and the Women of Troy will play at 6pm PST on Thursday vs. Illinois in the Final Four of the NCAA Championship which is being held in San Antonio, Texas.

 


Kenall Polan of Yale University also earned honorable mention All-America honors from the AVCA. This Ivy League Player of the Year was also named to the AVCA's Northeast All-Region team after leading her team to their third conference title in four years. Polan ended her season with a career-high 893 assists, 25 aces, and 30 blocks. She led the Ivy League and ranked 54th nationally in assists as she had 50 or more assists four times this season. She was also a two-time Ivy League Player of the Week (Sept. 6 and Oct. 4).

The Bulldogs ended their season with a 30-9 record and finished their season with a loss in the first round of the NCAA Championship to No. 1 USC.
