After graduating in 2010, Jeana moved to California to get her Bachelor’s degree in History while playing collegiate volleyball at Point Loma Nazarene University. She enjoyed her time as a top student-athlete at PLNU, and after her graduation from PLNU in 2014, Jeana understands the difficulties facing student-athletes at all levels. Jeana has experienced the complexities and issues facing student athletes of all sports and has full comprehension of the balance linking education and competition.
While studying towards completing upper education California teaching credential and becoming a High School History teacher, Jeana takes being a successful learner seriously, while doing what she loves: coaching young student athletes. Jeana has instructed young athletes in numerous camps and clinics for Volleyball, as well as several Basketball and Lacrosse clinics.
Since the 2011-2012 season Jeana has coached several successful student-athlete teams at WAVE. Her greatest success stories are not just shown as banners on a wall. Jeana has led her athletes to extraordinary heights of confidence and self-assurance. Each season she witnesses individuals strengthen successfully into awe-inspiring teammates who are thriving while working hard. Their positivity continues to impress their coach daily!
Additionally, Jeana loves to “Get Sandy!” She enjoys encouraging athletes to do the same when she’s coaching sand volleyball with Head Beach Coach Matt Olson on WAVE beach courts. Jeana loves how sand volleyball is opening up some major doors for athletes, and many are being recruited to play in high level collegiate programs. Broadening her experience has been Jeana’s seasons of coaching under Head Coach Brennan Dean at Torrey Pines High School. Her ability to relate to these emergent student athletes has provided success on all levels. She is proud of their team-building exercises and feel they have direct links to their success on and off the court.
When not coaching or working towards becoming a teacher, Jeana loves to spend as much time as she can outdoors. She grew up skiing, hiking, camping, riding horses, fishing, water-skiing and wakeboarding, and now some of her favorite times include spending time in, at, or around the ocean, camping in the Sierras, playing sand volleyball, and taking spur-of-the-moment road trips. She and Ivy, her rescued young Black Lab, are also often paddle-boarding. Jeana also loves to cook, read a good book, and she follows Football, Basketball and Baseball and watches SportsCenter in her spare time. She’s been told if she hadn’t set her sights on being a teacher and a coach, she would have made a great Sports Broadcaster!
Jeana reflects often on the great teachers and coaches she had throughout her formative years, who encouraged her to do her best both on and off the court. Today she is excited and confident she is this type of positive influence on WAVE athletes. Her true passion will always be discovering and enhancing the best in each team member!
