Lacey joined the WAVE staff in 2023!
She began coaching as an assistant and head coach at Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club where she gained her foundational experience working with a wide range of age groups. When she moved back to San Diego in 2019, she started coaching intermittently for Coast VBC, helping with camps and clinics over the years.
In January, she completed her master's program and earned a degree in sport and performance psychology. With this in mind, her general coaching philosophy is to bring joy to the athletes while also challenging them to be the best they can be. As a young athlete, she always struggled with intense performance anxiety, perfectionism, and confidence issues and can understand how easily these types of challenges manifest in athletes who are trying to fit into a highly competitive and social environment. Thus, she believes in cultivating an atmosphere where each individual is comfortable being their most authentic self while also teaching from the framework of a growth-mindset. Setting ambitious goals is awesome and she encourages her players to pursue whatever outcomes their heart so desires, but keeping the athletes focused on the process of mastery.
Lacey played for a handful of very talented indoor teams as a libero/DS. She earned two NCAA championships as the starting DS at Penn State. Since then, she has been training on the beach so that she can attempt to qualify and compete on the AVP tour.
Fun Fact: She's always wanted to attempt America Ninja Warrior 🙂
