Will is a native San Diegan and discovered his love of volleyball one summer through pickup beach volleyball games. From there he went on to play for Torrey Pines where he was on varsity for three years as an outside hitter and libero. He also played for WAVE his senior year, which was the club’s inaugural year for their boys program.
While he was a student at UCSB, Will played libero for the school’s club team and won two state championships. Off the court he volunteered with an at-risk youth sports league where he coached several sports and found that he enjoyed working with kids. This led to him getting his first paid volleyball coaching job at Earl Warren in 2011 and later getting his teaching credential and M.Ed. from USD in 2013. Between 2011 and 2018 he coached a combination of mens and womens club and high school teams, with highlights including five league championships and a CIF state quarterfinal run. In 2018 he returned to WAVE as a coach rather than a player, and was also privileged to be chosen to run the girl’s volleyball program at San Dieguito Academy, where he has also been teaching since 2019.
Will’s coaching philosophy emphasizes hard work, dedication, discipline, selflessness, and the ability to love competition, love one another, and love the game of volleyball in order to optimize a student-athlete's ability to realize their potential both on and off the court.
In his free time Will is an avid woodworker, amateur horticulturist, enthusiastically average tennis player, and proud sci-fi/fantasy nerd. In the wild he is most likely to be spotted around Encinitas at a bar trivia night, feeling utterly lost about pop-culture and music questions.
