armandoabarca2017@gmail.comArmando joined the WAVE staff in 2026!
Armando has been playing volleyball since the 8th grade, beginning as a middle before transitioning to opposite and eventually outside hitter. After playing high school volleyball at Ramona and one season at Miramar College, he took a brief break from the sport to pursue soccer professionally with the Tijuana Xolos reserve squad in Mexico before returning to volleyball at a professional level in Mexico’s Primera División. One of his proudest volleyball accomplishments was earning the opportunity to play and train with the Mexican National Team.
As a coach, Armando considers himself a student of the game and is passionate about helping athletes grow both technically and mentally. His background in psychology and his continued interest in pursuing a PhD in the neuroscience of athletic performance shape the way he approaches coaching, especially when it comes to confidence, decision-making, and individual development. He believes every athlete is capable of becoming a great volleyball player with the right attitude, guidance, and willingness to grow. Armando brings an encouraging, detail-oriented coaching style and is committed to helping players feel supported, challenged, and proud of their progress.
Outside of coaching, Armando enjoys playing volleyball with his girlfriend Olivia and spending time with their two dogs, Little and Toby.
