Known as one of the top coaches for Junior Boys Club Volleyball throughout the country, Darrell Dilmore brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to WAVE Boys' volleyball program.
Darrell was a decorated junior player and college player prior to his career in coaching. Darrell was named an All‐Conference Honorable Mention player in 1994 and 1st Team All‐conference in 1995. In 1996, as a senior, he was named 1st‐ Team All Conference, Conference Player of the Year, Florida Region Player of the Year, 1st Team All East Coast, and named a member of the prestigious Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list.
At the collegiate level, at The University of the Pacific, Darrell was named Most‐Improved player in 1997, he was named the team’s Best Defensive Player, Best Offensive Player, and Most Valuable Player in 1998, and in 1999 was named Co‐Most Valuable Player. He was twice named to the All MPSF Honorable Mention team. Darrell still holds 2 All‐Time records at UOP and is ranked in the Top Ten in 4 other All Time Categories. Darrell graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
Darrell has been a boy’s volleyball head coach in San Diego since 2003. Darrell began his career at San Diego Volleyball Club in 2003 coaching the 18‐1s program. In 2004‐2005 his team finished 5th at the Junior Olympics. Darrell transitioned to EPIC Volleyball Club in 2007 where he lead the boys 18 teams to a Silver Medal at the 2008 Junior Nationals and a Junior Nationals 5th place finish in 2009. In 2010, he guided the 18‐1 team to the SCVA Boys Classic Championship and a 5th place finish at Junior Nationals. He coached the Boys 17‐1 team to a 15th finish at the Junior Olympics in 2011 and the 2012 18‐1 team to an Open bid for Junior Nationals.
At COAST, Darrell won the 2013 SCVA Boys Classic with his 17‐1 team enroute to a 9th place finish at the Junior Nationals. As the 18‐1 coach in 2014, he guided the team to multiple top 10 finishes and to an 11th place finish in the Open Division at Junior Nationals. In 2015, his 18‐1 team finished 5th at the Junior Olympics. In 2016, Darrell coached the 17‐1 team to a top 5 finish at the SCVA Boys Classic and an 11th place finish in the Open Division at Junior Olympics. In 2017, Darrell’s 18-1 team qualified for the Open Division at Junior Nationals and earned a Bronze Medal at the 2017 SCVA Junior Boys Classic in Anaheim, CA. Finally, in 2018, his 17-1 team qualified for the Open Division of JO’s with a 5th place finish at the Boys Invitational and concluded the year with a 5th Place finish at Junior Nationals in Phoenix, AZ.
Joining WAVE in 2019, Darrell assisted with the Girl’s 17-Kevin team and took 3rd at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier and secured an Open Division bid. He coached the Boy’s 18-Darrell team to an Open Bid for the 2019 Junior Olympics as well. In 2020, he assisted the 18-Kevin girls’ team to a 1st place finish and Open Bid at the Far Western Championships in Reno, NV. He head-coached the boys 18’s team to an Open JO’s Bid via qualification in the Florida Fest tournament. In 2021, he assisted the girls 18-Kevin team which placed 13th in Girls 18 Open division at JO’s in Columbus, OH. He led the boys 18-Darrell Team to a 3rd place finish in the inaugural Boy’s SoCal Cup Winter Championships and secured a Bronze Medal with a 3rd place finish at the boy’s Junior Olympics in Kansas City, MO.
Darrell has helped over 100 players reach the collegiate level of volleyball in the men’s game. He takes great pride in developing and mentoring players for the next level.
He is married to his amazing and lovely wife Carrie, and has an amazing daughter, Emily who also plays at WAVE.
