Shawn joined the WAVE Coaching Staff in 2026!

Shawn's coaching philosophy is centered on developing the whole athlete by creating an environment where young players feel challenged, supported, and empowered to become the best version of themselves and to win championships. As a former Northwestern University volleyball player and middle blocker, certified life coach and through more than 11 years of coaching at the club and high school levels with organizations including Wildcat Juniors, Junior Chargers, Sussex Hamilton High School, and Milwaukee Sting, she has learned that great coaching is about more than teaching the fundamental and physical aspects of the game, it is about developing confidence, resilience, character, and a genuine love for competition. Shawn believes players learn best when they are allowed to play through mistakes, take ownership of their development, and understand that mistakes are an essential part of growth. She especially enjoys working with athletes who are eager to learn, passionate about volleyball, and committed to having a growth mindset, while also taking great pride in helping reserved or less confident players discover their voice and unlock abilities they may not yet recognize in themselves. Her goal is to build relationships, establish trust, teach the game with purpose, and challenge every player to raise their standard while knowing they are valued for who they are. Ultimately, Shawn wants every athlete she coaches to leave the gym not only as a better volleyball player, but also as a more confident, resilient, accountable, and self aware person who understands how to pursue excellence and bring out the best in those around them.

Her and her 4 daughter have all won state championships in high school (Shawn-1989; Tatum-2021; Brooke-2025; Claire-2025).
Shawn's husband coached college basketball for over 25 years (1994 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.)
Her son Patrick was drafted in the 1st round after his freshman year by the Golden State Warriors (2022-27th pick).
They have a family bulldog named Zeus.
